How We Help Provide Housing

Homelessness can happen to anyone. As of 2021, approximately 11.6% of Americans were living in poverty. Housing insecurity is not limited to a certain “type” of person. It can happen to virtually anyone at any time.

Emergency Housing Programs

The Salvation Army of Greater Birmingham is the only shelter in Central Alabama, serving men, women, children, families, and veterans at one location, The Center of Hope. We offer emergency services that include food, shelter, clothing, and counseling. If you are experiencing homelessness, and need immediate help, please call 205-328-2420 or come to The Salvation Army Social Services Building, located at 2015 26th Avenue North Birmingham, AL 35234, for assistance.

My Home

The Salvation Army of Greater Birmingham’s My Home Program provides support to families, Veterans, and Human Trafficking survivors experiencing homelessness. The case-intensive program works to transition participants out of the Shelter program, and into permanent housing of their own. For more information, please call 205-328-2420.

Veteran's Bridge Program

The Salvation Army of Greater Birmingham’s Veteran’s Bridge program is a partnership between The Salvation Army and the Department of Veteran Affairs. The Bridge Program provides Veterans with the services necessary to transition from experiencing homelessness to permanent supportive housing. Veteran’s services include case management and the coordination of medical, mental health, substance abuse recovery, education and workforce development, housing placement, and other resources. For more information, please call 205-328-2420.
